The recent work on WxConfig was largely on things in the background. Think about preparing the online shop, the CI/CD setup, and similar things.

The other big thing that kept me busy was thinking about which features to put into the free Core Edition. This is a constant exercise in trade-offs. How can I provide a piece of software that provides real value to customers, while motivating those that need advanced functionality to purchase a higher version?

The current line of thinking (and this must not be construed to be some kind of commitment) looks roughly like this for the free WxConfig NG Core version:

• Support for property files, but not XML or JSON
• Support for different environment types
• No support for file locations outside packages
• Web UI-based wizard to add the retrieval of values to Flow services ("Config to Flow")

We are getting information about new and shiny software all the time. The question is: What do you do about that? The easy way is when the software is simply not relevant. You just dismiss it. But what if you find it to be relevant?

The challenge here is that you are most likely not looking at things from a greenfield perspective. Instead you probably have something already, which addresses your needs at least in a minimalist way.

So the decision is not about usefulness in general, but the possible added value coming from a migration.

This is what a new article looks at for WxConfig NG. It covers the possible situations in terms of configuration management for webMethods Integration and gives recommendations. Spoiler alert: Not all of them are in favor of WxConfig NG.

The (for me) most interesting aspect of this video was that it was kind-of recursive. Because the real-world project is about software that makes acceptance testing easier.

So not only do you learn about TDD, but also about acceptance testing and how to make it more robust.
